SUPERFOOD AVOCADO MAYO | superfood recipes

Image
I don’t love mayo—it’s just too rich and eggy for my tastes. But I adore this yummy, superfood version. If you don’t like cilantro, swap in dill or parsley or another herb—even a small garlic clove. Or, leave out the herbs altogether. If you don’t have lime juice, try lemon juice. Avocado Mayo Makes about 1-1/2 cups 1/2 cup mayonnaise (this can be from a jar or homemade) 1 avocado, pitted 1/4 cup cilantro, chopped 2 teaspoons lime juice salt and pepper, to taste 1. Add mayonnaise, avocado, cilantro and lime juice to a food processor or blender and blend until smooth. 2. Add salt and pepper, to taste. About Ketones | the basics of the keto diet | low carb diet and keto diet

Image
A ketone is a an organic compound containing a carbonyl group =C=O bonded to two hydrocarbon groups, made by oxidizing secondary alcohols. Or, in simple English, ketones (also known as “ketone bodies”) are chemicals produced by your liver as it breaks down fat for energy. Usually, your body uses insulin to turn carbs into energy. However, when it can’t find enough carbs to make into energy, your body uses fat. Your liver turns this fat into ketones, a type of acid, and sends them into your bloodstream. Your muscles and other tissues then use these ketones for fuel. This is the premise of the ketogenic diet. Did you know…. Low-Carb Keto Hummus | ketogenic diet meals

Hummus is a healthy, easy, portable dip, dressing, spread and more. Except that it is on the carb-heavy side. This version, which uses steamed cauliflower or raw zucchini (you choose) for the chickpeas, is a great alternative. Zero-Carb Keto Wrapper   is one of the simplest wrappers ever! Plus, it is absolutely no carb.  Note: While the type of cheese you use for this recipe does not matter, they will need to be deli-style slices.  The recipe won’t work with chunks you carve off that block of cheddar in your fridge. Microwaves used for this recipe. If you don’t have one, turn your oven to 150 F or 200 F and place the cheese and parchment paper in  just until  the cheese looks soft (don’t wait until it’s a runny mess!) How to Avoid Eating Too Much | ketogenic diet

Image
The prospect of eating avocados, bacon, and cream, every day can be so tantalizing that we forget that the keto diet is not a food free-for-all. No one—including keto-eaters—should eat until they feel queasy or overburden their digestive tract. Further, because the majority of keto ingredients are so calorie-dense, overeating even a small amount of them can get in the way of weight loss. If you struggle with eating too much of a good thing, these tips may help. Stay hydrated. Oftentimes, we mistake thirst for hunger. Aim for at least two litres of water per day. Carry your own keto snacks. Snacks can be an slippery slope when you are not prepared. Pack a piece or two of salmon jerky or stock up on snack-sized containers and fill them with cubed cheese, salami, slices of cucumber, or other keto-compliant foods. Don’t keep trigger foods in your home, Read more... THE KETO KIT Stephanie Pedersen Inc. 250 East 31 Street Suite 2A New York, NY 10016

My Reach-Ketosis-Faster Salad | superfoods for weight loss

Image
If you’ve been on this low-carb journey for a while, you’ve probably heard about ketosis. This is a physical state where your body begins to burn its own fat stores as energy, instead of using the energy found in the food you eat. Why this is so special: It helps your body get rid of its fat stores! But it’s not always so easy to reach this state: It takes a few days to over a week—depending upon a person’s unique physiology— of very low-carb eating to reach ketosis. Do know that there are things you can do to speed up ketosis, including adding healthy fats like coconut oil and coconut cream, using intermittent fasting, making sure you are getting 8+ hours of sleep each night. I will talk about all of these in future blog posts, but for now, I want to give you a great salad (4 grams of net carbs! 34.6 grams of fat!) to eat while you are working to reach (or maintain) ketosis. A salad may be a weird gift to offer up, but a lot of you probably really miss veggies. Yes, there...

How to get rid of Bad Keto Breath | Keto diet kit

Image
If you have a partner or an honest friend, he or she might point out the pungent change in your breath. “Keto breath,” as it is affectionately called, is another one of the symptoms that occurs when your body switches from burning glycogen to burning fat. Described alternately as smelling like rotting apples, garbage mixed with nail polish remover, or pickled cabbage, you have only the ketones to blame. (A quick reminder: Ketones are naturally released by the body when you switch from carb-burning to fat burning.) While there is not much you can do to completely eradicate keto breath if you want to remain in ketosis, there are a few things that will help lessen it and even mask it.   Read more ... Can you eat superfoods and still be keto?

Image
Superfoods foods are celebrated for their ability to strengthen the immune system, fight inflammation, and prevent  green  diseases. Decades of  studies  have found that adding one or two servings of superfoods to your daily diet can help lower your risk of a variety of cancers, reduce blood cholesterol levels, help maintain brain health, and decrease your chances of catching common viruses, such as the cold and flu. Superfoods do all of these impressive things thanks to their high concentrations of healing plant-based nutrients called phytonutrients.  Foods such as acai, berries, chia, flax, hemp, quinoa, amaranth, walnuts, pumpkin seeds, sweet potato, beets, winter squash, tea (green and black), and dark leafy greens are among the best-known superfoods. Unfortunately for keto eaters, many superfoods contain high amounts of net carbs, making them a no-no for low-carb eaters.  Fortunately, there are several superfoods that are lower in net carbs, ...

THE IMPORTANCE OF PACKING YOUR FOOD

Image
Planning for office, school, and other away-from-home meals will allow you to succeed on the keto diet. For many of us, the meals we eat away from home are the ones where we are most likely to make bad choices. Set yourself up for keto success by making your own away-from-home meals. Here are some suggestions. Stock up  on one-cup (8-ounce), single-serve, freezer-safe  food  containers  (get at least seven). Purchase a  heat-insulated container , such as a  Thermos .  (I like the 12-ounce and 16-ounce sizes). I also recommend buying a  sealable drink cup . Collect a few  mini containers  for sauce and condiments. This is especially important if you are one of those folks who resists homemade food because you think it “tastes boring.” Bringing a few condiments along can mean the difference between eating homemade food, and spending large amounts of money on expensive take-out.
